Sensei Tony Palos began his karate training in 1985 in corpus Christi under Sensei Paul Bystedt. After moving to Denton to pursue his music degree, he resumed his training at TIKK in July 1998 after a 12 year layoff. Sensei Palos was diagnosed with torn ACL during his Black Belt testing in April of 2002 with surgery recommended. Instead, after extensive rehabilitation, he finished his testing three months later and earned the rank of Sho-dan on August 10, 2002. In June 2003 at the IWKA Tournament, in his second tournament as a Black Belt, Sensei Palos took 3rd in kumite, 2nd place in weapons, 1st place in empty hand kata and competed for Grand Champion in empty hand kata. In May 2004, Sensei Palos received a Recognition Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Martial Arts from his teacher, Kyoshi Kristensen, at the Texas Martial Arts hall of Fame. Sensei Palos was promoted to Ni-Dan at the Spring 2005 Shiai.  He received San-Dan and the title of Sensei at the 2007 Gasshuku & Shiai. Sensei Palos continues to train at the Coppell dojo and is the head instructor at the Denton dojo.
